Sunny Weekend

CZarina on the way to Cornwall Avenue down by the beach. Buss 22 or 2 takes her to work.
View of the city covered by fog and a perfect view of all the three city ski slopes. Cypress, Grouse, Seymour (also called freemour because school kids get to go there for free).
Grouse on a good day. When you can see the city from up there and you don't feel like you're really above the clouds.
Lion's heads. That's not a common site! From my work.
Back street view again.
Femke and CZarina (still sleeping, Maarten called her a bum)waiting for the Jericho Stewardship group. 20 minutes early on a Sunday! Maarten gave his bike to Femke. We're never early!
Apartment view at night! City lights.
Same view in the morning...Saturday.
Friday night's dinner. Femke made wild salmon dinner. Lekker eten!
Steve, John with thenext generation of the Jericho Stewardship group....and Maarten after pulling blackberry bushes in the first half of the morning.
Debbie working hard...planting Arbutus.
Lovely Louise. The cat lady. She has a cat with eleven huge bells around it's neck to scare away the birds.
Steve Pound-Biggin...getting maaried to Faith on 13th May in the Gulf Islands.
Kevin and Linda
Louise and Femke in the background. We showed Femke a few rabbits.
Digging away....to sore arms!
Morning tea. I helped get the cinnamon roles at Grounds (Point Grey shops) with Mike. Now you see him...
... Now you dont!
Sailing club (they do disabled sailing there). If we're here in the summer we will be taking classes....canoeing, kayaking.
Getting into the coffee. There's Jazz with Femke. Poor little one wanted cinamon buns but she didn't work for it. She did do some herding though of her owner.
awwwww...cute.
Dinner Sunday night. Chocolate strawberry time!
being silly.
relaxing...
lets pick on Dave!
carving!
waiting in anticipation!
The beef ROAST!!!!
(220 deg for every 500grams of beef off the bone...we had it in for 2 hours on 400 fah.)
Friday evening I finished work at 4.30 and took a taxi to the consulate’s house for drinks (Rita’s farewell). It was a Dutch night. We had bitterbollen (like croquets that we used to get out of the walls in Holland). We went home at 7.30pm, Femke cooked a wonderfully delicious Salmon, sweet potatoes with pepper and rosemary and Chinese greens. It was superb! We then watched the really long, feel good Ladies of Lavender with Maggie smith and Judy Dench.
The weekend was awesome! Sunny, warmish. We had a lazy Saturday with a lie in and pancakes with real maple syrup (I'll always distinguish Canadian maple syrup by calling it 'real'). Femke didn’t go to Victoria. Maarten took her to Broadway for a bike ride.
After they were back we took a picnic lunch, blanket and went down to the beach to people watch. We got some coffee from viva.
Later we went to The Wired Monk…a new cafĂ© on 4th and Trafalgar. They have some really nice names for their coffees – my favorite has got to be the one that had me buzzing – the lethal buzz. It had 2 shots of really strong expresso and two shots of thick dark chocolate. We sat and talked for ages. After that we went by Supervalue to shop for the Sunday roast.
Sunday – we woke up early and headed down to Jericho Park for the month gardening. We pulled ivy (the fun team…that’s Dawns), blackberry (John’s team…usually always has Maarten an Steve in it) and some of the new invasive called yellow archangel.
Of course mustn’t forget Kevin with the holly.
Louise, Debbie, Linda (who’s going through the inside passage for 3 months again this summer), Darral and some others were there. Femke enjoyed it – digging away to plant arbutus.
Sunday afternoon we just prepared slowly for the roast. Everyone was coming at 6pm. We had hummus, roasted peppers with olive and pita bread to begin with. Danielle brought chocolate covered strawberries (Dave’s idea), Donna got Rosemount Shiraz…one of my favorites.
The roast turned out really well, I’m glad. Accompanied it with roast pumpkin, potatoes, balsamic carrots and beans.
We went to bed early.

I can't believe those dodgy aussies had the hide to come to dinner and not to garden... in Czarina's words - "geez"!
