Whistler Deep Cove Jericho Park

The weekend panned out really well. Friday night Dan and Dave joined with Maarten, Donna and I for a quick, cheap, Indian meal in Little India (Main and 49th). 4 mains with 3 naans, 2 bhaturas, two appies and water came up to $40.40. Not bad at all. It was fun to share it with friends after a rather long week at work.

Saturday morning we left at 6.25am in time for the beautiful sunrise over Mt. Baker. Cups of Starbucks coffee and a pit stop at Squamish (last 7/11 to get cheap lift tickets). We parked at lot 6, where Katherine and Todd like to park as well. It’s also where Mel lives in staff housing for the Fairmont. Nice and easy for us when we spend the night on her couch. We saw Mel for a coffee at the bakery cafĂ© in the village. Good to catch up, we miss her dropping in anytime. Got home at about 9.30/10ish. Maarten drove.

Sunday morning our first late turn up for Jericho gardening, made up for it with some shoveling and re-planting the Arbutus that were stolen. Went again to Higher Grounds (Pnt. Gray Shops) for the Vancouver famous cinnamon rolls with Mike. He’s one of the most amazing people I’ve met with the things he does. One of his pet projects is he looks after owls and releases them in the wildb builds them shelters, he volunteers full time as well as has his job with the Parks Board. It’s always nice to speak with him one on one.

After an interesting talk about evergreens and deciduous trees by Steve Biggin-Pound (Evergreen) we made our way to Deep Cove with Dan driving (rather well for the wrong side of the road, ;)) Had salmon burger lunch, got the kayaking school brochure and walked around a little. It was a stunning day…continued from Whistler all blue skies and sunshine. We had the best snow there the day before and the runs weren’t as busy as we thought with spring break in action. I think we can safely say we were all exhausted and craving time to relax and sit quietly by Sunday evening… which is what we did. Always time for overseas calls though.
